Today is the birthday of a famous landmark, in the form of a 25 foot fiberglass shark that ‘crashed’ into a house in Oxford. This started a series of events led by the City Council relating to whether the shark actually required planning consent. The owner of the shark, Bill Heine, applied for retrospective planning permission, which was refused, however he then appealed and had the refusal overturned.
The shark has since become a local landmark and can even be found on Google Streetview!
