75% of Energy Generated by Renewable sources in Germany on Sunday!

On Sunday renewable energy generation in Germany achieved nearly 75% of the energy demand for the whole country…..by midday!

Just another milestone that proves that the world has to take this technology seriously, based on fact and figures such as these produced last weekend. Okay, it’s been dismal weather across most of the UK for the last few days now, but even without the sun paying us a visit, we can put our trust in the wind and wave applications to create renewable energy.

The UK Government has come a long way in the last 5-10 years and every now and then it feels like the momentum can’t be stopped, and that’s when the dirty word appeared in the press ‘fracking’. I’m no scientist, so I can’t discuss in great depth whether or not the claims of large pockets of natural gas are true. Nor can I claim to know everything there is to know about the process (largely as we all seem to be kept in the dark about what chemicals are used to extract the gas). However, I can remember my secondary school science education (just) and know that the sun doesn’t seem to be dimming anytime soon so I would say that it’s quite a safe bet to use this free resource that we have! And that’s just the point for me, whether or not fracking maybe the idea of all time, at the moment there is little to back that sort of claim up and it feels like a gamble to say the least.

We have now invested hundreds of thousands of pounds in training, manufacturing and research for renewables, so why do we feel the need to drop them as if they’re an old toy and start looking at something else instead? With records such as the one set on Sunday in Germany for this huge achievement, it just shows that we need to focus all of our energy in one place (so to speak) rather than having our fingers in too many pies, some of which are nuclear!

I know it works, scientists know it works and the increasing number of people around the world investing personally in renewable technology means that we should embrace how far we have progressed since first making fire! The goal in Germany is clear with 80% renewable electricity production by 2050, so whats say we join them, and not jog along at the back!

You can read more about the events on Sunday here.

And just in case you thought this was a one off event, it just so happens there is an older blog post of mine from 2012 which you can read here if you wish.

If you want to make a change and are looking for a more ethical electricity supplier, then why not have a look at Ecotricity here. They are based in the Cotswolds and all profits that are made go to creating new wind turbines. They also supply green gas too (shale deposit and fracking free of course)!

Alternatively if you have some spare savings and are looking for a sound investment, then why not contact me here to see what you could do. No you’re right, I don’t sell renewables, but I know some good people who do and so I can point you in the right direction!
